Operation Petticoat

27 01 2007

Since the store was so empty on Thursday night, Tracy and I watched Operation Petticoat.

Who knew a movie produced in 1959 could be funny?  There are so many wise cracks and almost innocent innuendo that I laughed for most of the film.

Glory

Set in the Civil War, this film tells the story of a man who leads a black regiment.

I found myself not paying attention while this film was playing.  The battle sequences are not mind grabbing and the film feels like it drags on and on.  I like the film, it just wasn’t superb.

The DaVinci Code

After reading the book and watching the movie, I think I prefer the movie.  There are obviously some major differences between the two, but I think the movie does a great job with explaining the story.

I highly recommend that you see this film and see what everyone else is talking about.  It’s well done and Tom Hanks does a great job.  It’s a different role for him than many of his other films.  The academic side of him is quite good.

Casino Royale

James Craig as James Bond?  I’ll admit the adjustment to a blonde Bond was a little tough for me.  That said, this was one of the better Bond films made lately.

I would like to know though if that scene in the beginning of the movie was actually filmed in Mbale, Uganda.  Well, I did want to know.  Wikipedia just told me that the scene was shot in the UK.  Either way, it still brings a little press to the LRA situation in Uganda.

A Very Long Engagement

2 12 2006

This is the first foreign film that I have seen in quite some time.  It’s the story of Manech and Mathilde during and after the first world war.  It was a sad, depressing story, but I liked the movie overall.

The quality of the acting and picture weren’t as high as one would expect from Hollywood.  This hasn’t stopped my from adding more foreign films to my queue.
