soul, get up and hope in God!

7 03 2007

There have been some great chapel speakers this semester here at Grove City.  There have been two that have really stuck with me over the past few weeks, but Rev. Angel DeLaCruz’s sermon came back to mind today.  For one, it was really, really short.  But what he said really has made me ponder.

He spoke on Psalm 42:1-5.  He was one of those chapel speakers that makes you say things to your neighbor and “give a hand clap for God”.  Let’s just say that these don’t go over well at 9:30 AM at a Presbyterian thinking college.

DeLaCruz spoke about the stressors that blindside our souls into a spiritual disaster.  It is these times that we must speak to our souls, “Get up and hope in God!”  Do we come to the realization that the murkiness in our lives cannot be overcome by ourselves?  Do we realize that we must go outside of ourself and turn to God?

Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
my salvation and my God.

What a huge realization!  We can hope in God and again praise Him after we are downcast and in turmoil.  Despite those around us who say “Where is your God?”, we can say “Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God”.

why do i hate coming back?

I like it here.  Why do I hate coming back?

I get this feeling of discontentment.  It makes me feel surly even though I really shouldn’t be feeling that way.  I usually have great breaks, this one was fantastic, but the end of the break just signals a return to drudgery.

As someone just mentioned though, I am only coming back one more time.  Scary, but great!

lost & regained

The last few weeks have been a blur and a frenzy of emotion and activity.  Here are some highlights:

  • I took a job, turning down some other options that I had on the table and several other great leads.
  • The job I took is in Dubai.
  • I remembered that I have a camera and that I have tons of pictures that I haven’t looked at in ages.
  • I’ve been reading the Baca Saga, Fabulous Females, and Riveted Pining.
  • Classes are busy and I have a lot of work to do, but it’s my last semester and I have a job.
  • Joseph Kony & company are in the Central African Republic.  That’s quite a hike from anyone I know in Uganda!
  • These two (1 & 2) got engaged!
  • I’ve been reading websites and books about Middle Eastern culture and Dubai.  It’s really fascinating, much more so than I had originally expected.

wow

I just spent about half an hour getting my car out of its parking spot.  I had two other people who pitched in and two snow shovels and I still barely made it out.

no school!

Grove City just shut everything down for tomorrow.  No classes, no meetings, no nothing.  This is the first time in close to 20 years.

Who says all this snow is bad?
